EVEmon for Cocoa (The programming for the iPhone/iPod Touch)
« on: April 16, 2008, 06:06:42 pm »
With the iPod Touch, and iPhone coming out with it's newest programming, called RoadMap, Programmers are allowed to create portable programs for people to use. iPhones and the Touch are becoming more and more popular as the choice for Mp3 players, and tools for everyday use.

I believe, EveMon, in preperation for this new wave of technology, this new fad in portable technology, should take advantage of the free programming tools given by Apple. The players who have access to such technology, would surely appreciate the ability to check their character's stats while away from the computer. What do the users think of such a tool being created?

It has been shown, that people, with no experience, within 2 weeks, have created well made programs. Those programmers from places like AOL, Maxis, and other well known companies, have adapted their games, and tools to the iPod Touch and iPhone with no problem. AOL made a functional AIM, Maxis made a Spore adaption, of the first 'Spawn Pool' stage. Many other games were made within the two weeks they were given, so an adaption of an EVEMon type program should be no problem.

This is a great idea.  I've been awaiting for a mac version, and this would only help motivate the devs to get something going that isn't so Microsoft specific.

Any word on whether this is close to becoming a reality?

To my knowledge, nobody is even working on it.

The original poster, hasn't even been back since making his post about how easy it is to do.

so an adaption of an EVEMon type program should be no problem.

A lot of people open their mouths (or type) without having any intention of doing any of the work themselfs.

If you want to port EVEMon to iPhone, go right ahead, its open source for a reason.
Just don't forget to post the modified source back.

If not, well, don't expect anyone else to either.
Developers, especially ones which aren't paid, or compensated for their time. Will work on what they want, when they feel like it.

I think it would be quite hard to port EVEmon to iphone, when EVEmon is made in .net

Correction: there's no way to port EVEMon to iPhone, because Apples restrictive licenses explicitly disallow any JIT/VM like platforms (java, mono/.net etc.) to be ported to iPhone.

This is not a problem, several games have been written in Mono. What makes it possible is that MONO allows for static compilation to the target platform.

BTW My excuse for not porting EVEMon is the lack of a Mac  ;D

I doubt they ported WinForms to the IPhone. ;=)
They probably only ported the JiT compiler and a few basic things (console, etc).
