After spending quite a bit of time figuring this out, I figured I'd post a small how-to on this topic to help out others. This is a small how-to to get EvEmon to send skill-training alerts to your email and/or cellphone via text messaging. This guide assumes that you already have Evemon installed and configured for your character.
1) To get started open up Evemon and go to: Tools>Options>Alerts
2) Check the box 'Send email when skill training completes'
3) Check the box 'Use Short Format (SMS friendly), this is not required, but I would highly recommend it.
4) This is the tough part, you must now enter your server address in the 'Email Server' box and the port number in the 'Port Number' box. Enclosed is a common list of email providers and their respective servers. If yours is not on the list, you can ask your email service provider, or even easier, just simply create an account at one listed. I would recommend gmail since I can confirm it works and is 'free'.
Servers:
Gmail
(at the gmail website, you must go in your mail options and enable 'POP', it's free)
smtp.gmail.com port: 587 if doesn't work, try 465 SSL: yes 'Server Requires Login': yes For username and password use the format
username@gmail.com and use the password you made with your gmail account.
AOL
(haven't tried this one, here is the general info:)
smtp.aol.com port: 587 SSL: AOL online help does not specify, try both ways. 'Server Requires Login': yes For username just use your AOL username and password.
Hotmail
(can NOT use this service)
Lycos
(haven't tried this one, but it looks free and easy, here is the general info:)
smtp.mail.lycos.com port: 25 SSL: pretty sure not required 'Server Requires Login': yes For username and password first trying using just your username with the @lycos.com, if that doesn't work, try removing it, use the password you made for your lycos account.
Mail.com
(mail.com does not allow outside use of it's smtp servers, use another email service)
Netscape Mail
smtp.isp.netscape.com port: 25 SSL: yes 'Server Requires Login': yes For username use your netscape email address and password.
Yahoo
(This service is possible, but requires the paid subscription to Yahoo! Mail Plus)
smtp.mail.yahoo.com port: 25 if doesn't work, try 465 SSL: yes 'Server Requires Login':yes For username and password use the format
username@yahoo.com and use the password you made with your yahoo account.
(Note: If you wish to add common email service providers to help others, please reply to this thread and I'll add to this list for ease of use, I would like to see common isp emails like Charter added to this list)5) 'From Address' 99.999999% of the time, this is not going to matter since your email service provider will automatically fill this out for you. For simplicity, just put the email address that corresponds with the smtp that you used. Once we get this working, you can try changing it to something creative

6) 'To Address' This is the place where we can have fun. Here you can specify to send an alert to any email address that you desire. You can send it to your work email, wife at home's email, etc etc.
ALSO, you can get this alert email sent to your cellphone as a text message. Assume my phone number is (231)456-7890. Using this number...
AT&T Wireless 2314567890@@txt.att.net or
possibly...2314567890@mmode.com Cingular
2314567890@mobile.mycingular.com (more than likely, tracfone and net10 use this format since they're resellers for Cingular)
Nextel
2314567890@messaging.nextel.com Orange
2314567890@orange.net Sprint PCS
2314567890@messaging.sprintpcs.com T-Mobile
2314567890@tmomail.net US Cellular
2314567890@mms.uscc.net Verizon
2314567890@vtext.com Virgin Mobile
2314567890@vmobl.comNotice that the phone number is used in the format (231)4567890 NOT 1+ (231)4567890. Please also realize that if you are charged for text messaging, this will count as a received text message and your cellphone provider will charge you the normal fee as any other text message sent to you. In otherwords, use this responsibly and at your own risk.
7) click 'Send EMail Test' and you should receive a test email from Evemon!!!!
More than likely 1 of 3 things will happen:
1) Evemon says 'Message Sent Successfully. Please verify that the message was received.' Your email address you specified or your cellphone receives the message, sometimes it can take a few minutes to receive depending on your email server. If you receive the message, then you're set and will receive notifications when your skill trainings are complete! Remember, Evemon must be running to receive the notification!
2) Evemon says 'Message Sent Successfully. Please verify that the message was received' and after waiting for 5 minutes, you don't receive anything. If this is the case, doublecheck the 'To:' address you entered. If you're trying to use a cellphone text, try entering an email address instead. If that works, then contact your cellphone provider and ask them for your cellphone's email address.
3) Evemon says 'Message Failed to Send'. This means we entered something wrong. After each of the steps below, try using the 'Send Test Email'.
First, doublecheck the 'server address'. It will always start off with smtp.etc.com/net/etc. It should not have any spaces.
Next, make sure the port is correct. You might try googling 'Gmail SMTP' for example and get alternate port numbers to try.
Next, try clicking/unclicking (ie make it the opposite of what you have) 'Connect Using SSL'.
Next, doublecheck your 'Username' and password. They must be identical to what your email provider has on file. If this still fails, try taking off @emailcompany.com from the username or add it.
If all else fails, I know for SURE that the gmail settings I have listed work and that the gmail service will always be 'free' (so they say). If you insist on having it sent to a certain email address, in gmail you can get emails forwarded. Therefore, setup a gmail account and set up evemon to use gmail. Then at gmail.com go into mail options and get your evemon emails forwarded to the email address you desire through 'Filters' in 'Mail Options'. I apologize for supporting gmail, but for this purpose, it works (personally, I've used the same hotmail account since 1996).
I am by no means an authority on the subject. Therefore, if there is something that someone thinks should be added, please feel free to politely reply to this thread and I'll add it. Furthermore, I would love for all information to be precise, if you have anything different than what I have listed, please also reply and I'll change it in this post asap. A few seconds posting what made it work for you can save people a lot of frustrating time getting this to work and they can instead spend that time chasing you down in pvp, stealing your salvage, etc

I hope this helps people!
Sincerely,
Ice Freeze of Jovian Labs
